How long does it take to arrange thatched property insurance
cover?
We can provide an accurate quotation within
48 hours of collating the necessary information from you regarding
your property. One of our sales advisors will call you with your
quotation and we can commence cover immediately.
Does it matter if my thatched roof is made out of reed or
straw?
No, we cover both of these materials.
How much should I insure my thatched property for?
For your buildings you need to take into
consideration not only the cost of rebuilding the main property but
also any outbuildings, swimming pools, boundary walls etc. The
value should include solicitors' and surveyors' fees and demolition
costs. With your contents you need to consider all household goods
and personal property within your thatched property and how much
you would have to pay to replace them as new. We make a deduction
for wear and tear for clothing and linen.
What precautions do I have to take to avoid fire damage?
Part of the criteria for thatched property
insurance is to have two fire extinguishers in your property at all
times. One of these has to be kept in the kitchen. Our other
criteria also states that no naked flames or tools which produce
flames are allowed in the loft area or wood burning stoves
throughout the whole building.
What does the policy state about chimneys?
All chimneys to solid-fuel stoves, boilers
and open fires are kept in a good state of repair and that they are
professionally cleaned once a year before winter.
What do I do if I need to cancel my cover?
You are entitled to a full refund of the
premium paid if you find the policy unsuitable for your needs and
cancel it within 14 days of receipt of your policy documents (as
long as no claims have been made). If you need to cancel cover
after that time, cancellation charges will apply. Please call us or
notify us in writing with the reason for cancellation and state the
date from which you need cover to cease. Remember, if your policy
is in more than one name, all policyholders will need to sign the
